Distance: 15-16 kilometres. Route: Þverá – Kvíabekkjardalur – Ólafsfjarðarskarð – Ólafsfjarðardalur – Brúnastaðir in the Fljót area.
Maximum elevation: 740 metres. Hiking time: 6-7 hours.

Ólafsfjarðarskarð pass is located in the mountain range between Ólafsfjörður and the Fljót area. The route from Ólafsfjörður lies from the abandoned farm Þverá through Kvíabekkjardalur valley and you hike along a path that was recently cleared. At Þverá farm, there is building work ongoing on a summer-house area and drilling for hot water has been carried out. Kvíabekkjardalur valley is well-vegetated and in earlier times there were many small farms there and you can still see the form of several ruins. Soon after you get up to the valley, you can see the pass, which is 740 metres above sea level. The mountains on both sides reach a height of about 900 metres. The route is very easily passable into the valley. This used to be the postal route from Ólafsfjörður to the Fljót area and was much travelled. The inner part of the Kvíabekkjardalur is called Skarðsdalur valley. The slope up to the pass is quite steep. Húngilsdalur valley, a grassy valley, leads to the south-west from Kvíabekkjardalur valley and there is a relatively easy passable route by horse up to the Vermundarstaðahyrna peak. When standing in the pass, you get a good view down to Ólafsfjarðardalur valley, the Fljót area, lake Miklavatn and the Ketilás community centre. The walk is easy down the valley. There is a very short distance from the pass over to Héðinsfjörður fjord through the Sandskarð pass, which used to be a well-travelled route between the Fljót area, Héðinsfjörður fjord and Ólafsfjörður (see Botnaleið route). The route goes down the valley south of Ólafsfjarðará river and it must be forded.
